How Can Love Be Always and Never?

Greetings Reader

We use the words “always” and “never” quite often, especially when we're upset with someone.

  • “You always do this.”
  • “You never listen to me.”
  • “You never take me seriously.”

But in 1 Corinthians 13, Paul used those words very differently when he described biblical love.

“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” 1 Corinthians 13:7

That sounds wonderful, but it also presents us with a challenge. How can we possibly love people that way—especially when they disappoint us, hurt us, or make us angry?

Thankfully, God doesn't expect us to produce that kind of love entirely on our own. The Holy Spirit helps us love others in ways that don't always come naturally.

Today’s devotion looks at what love always does, what love never does, and how God can help us live out both. Enjoy today's devotion!

God Bless,

Robin

Today’s devotion comes from Solomon’s prayer in 2 Chronicles 6 and God’s response in chapter 7. It includes a verse many Christians know well: Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from...

Solomon and Pharaoh’s Daughter Greetings Reader Solomon was one of the wisest men who ever lived. Yet even with all his wisdom, he made choices that went directly against what God had told him. One of those choices was marrying foreign women, including Pharaoh’s daughter. Interestingly, Solomon seemed to recognize there was a spiritual problem. He built her a palace outside the City of David because the Ark of the Lord had been there, and he considered it holy ground. But moving Pharaoh’s...

Are You Ready To Meet Jesus In The Air? Greetings Reader The women went to the tomb on Resurrection Sunday expecting to prepare the body of Jesus for burial. His body wasn't there. Instead, they met an angel who told them that Jesus had risen from the dead and that He would meet His disciples at a predetermined place. Our Lord has also told us about another meeting that is coming. “Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet...
