When You Really Want to See JesusGreetings Reader Zacchaeus had a problem. He wanted to see Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. So this wealthy chief tax collector did something rather undignified. He ran ahead and climbed a tree. “He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way.” Luke 19:3–4 Zacchaeus was willing to overcome an obstacle just to get a glimpse of Jesus. But something happened that he never expected. When Jesus reached that tree, He stopped, looked up, called Zacchaeus by name, and invited Himself to his home. Zacchaeus climbed the tree to see Jesus, but Jesus looked up and saw Zacchaeus. Before the day was over, this man's life had completely changed. That raises a question for each of us. How bad do we really want to see Jesus? What are we willing to move out of the way to draw closer to Him? And there is something even greater in this story. While Zacchaeus was seeking Jesus, Jesus revealed that He had been seeking Zacchaeus. “For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” Luke 19:10 In today's devotion, we'll look at what Zacchaeus discovered when his desire to see Jesus became a life-changing encounter with Him.
